Unnao Rape Case Accused MLA and Girl’s Family Grilled by CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the Unnao Rape case in full swing as the central investigating agency grilled the BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar along with his aides for hours on Thursday. It also questioned the 16-year old rape survivor and her family as part of the Unnao rape probe.

A seven-day CBI custody was given to Kuldeep by the court on Saturday while a four-day custody was awarded to the brother of the MLA and the other accused on Wednesday.

Kuldeep is accused raping a teenage girl in his house last year on June 4, according to the FIR filed by the rape survivor. MLA’s brother Atul Singh Sengar and his goons have also been accused by the family of the girl’s family of attacking and severely beating up the girl’s father on April 3.

The case shot to national limelight after the girl attempted to set herself on fire in front of the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The very next day the girl’s father died while he was still in police custody after he was allegedly arrested in a false case.

According to the media quoting source information from a senior CBI officer, Kuldeep, his brother Atul and their aides were grilled for hours on Thursday at the regional office of the CBI in Lucknow. The girl’s family was also questioned on the same day at the same place.

“The girl and her family members were brought to Lucknow in the morning. They were asked some questions related to the proximity between the families of the MLA and the victim before June 2017, and the reasons for the enmity between them,” the CBI office reportedly told the media.

The primary focus of the CBI probe at the present moment is to identify the place the MLA was when the alleged rape had taken place. The location of the brother of the MLA when the girl’s father was allegedly beaten up is also being ascertained by the CBI.

Whether the teenage girl had visited the house of the MLA before the alleged rape had taken place is also being attempted to be ascertained by the investigators, sources said.

Investigators are also trying to get to the truth about whether the girl and Kuldeep’s accomplice Shashi Singh knew each other before the alleged rape. Shashi allegedly had taken the girl to the residence of the MLA.

“The CBI is confirming if the girl was familiar to Shashi’s son Shubham Singh and his friend Awadhesh Awasthi, whom she has accused of kidnapping and rape,” the source reportedly said.

The source added that the accused and the victim and her family are being questioned on the basis of some telephone recordings related to the case that the CBI has gathered.

There are also allegations that the MLA had tried to influence the cases registered by the girl and her family after June 2017 and the CBI is also trying to estimate the truth on this.

“The agency is ascertaining if the girl’s father was attacked at Kuldeep’s behest and if the police sent him to jail under the legislator’s influence,” a CBI officer reportedly told the media.
