Defending Champs Mumbai Indians look to continue their dominance
When Mumbai Indians will strut on the grounds in the IPL 2018 edition, everyone’s eyes will be on them. During the initial years of the franchise league, they were widely believed to be the perennial underachievers of IPL. Each time they came close to the title, some other team would put an abrupt pause in their momentum, leaving Mumbai Indians dejected.
This was the story until 2012. When they played CSK in Eden Gardens final in IPL 2013, their moment finally arrived. Playing some scintillating Cricket they managed to break the deadlock and came home with the coveted trophy.
The achievement seemed even bigger considering they beat Chennai Super Kings in the Final. When CSK won their last IPL title back in 2011 beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Final, they had two titles in their bag, and two other finals as well. In the opening half-decade of IPL, CSK was the most consistent, most dominating team of IPL.
While Chennai has failed to collect another title, MI has made the most of their opportunity, winning 3 IPL titles in the past 5 years.
This transformation has made Mumbai Indians the most respected as well as the most feared side among all the IPL teams. When IPL 2018 comes around, they will all jump to stake their claim at the trophy, MI will look to assert their dominance and reignite their legacy.
Main Headline Players in Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018
Wankhede Stadium remains the home venue for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018. Sri Lankan stalwart Mahela Jayawardane will be the coach of Mumbai Indians.
Rohit Sharma will once again be the Captain of the Mumbai Indians. The team had to pay a heavy price of Rs. 15 crores to retain him at IPL 2018 auction. While his leadership skill last year was unquestionable, Sharma would like his own batting to do a lot more talking this time around.
Hardik Pandya has been the biggest revelation for Indian Cricket in the 2017-18 season. It wasn’t surprising to anybody when he was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 11 crore. Pandya will be looking to make his mark with both his batting and his bowling. In the decisive situations of the game, he will be one of the key players Mumbai Indians would be counting on.
Jasprit Bumrah has been a bowling sensation for the Indian national Cricket team for almost two years now. He was among the high-priced purchases for Mumbai Indians this year at 7 crores.
Mumbai Indians bought another T20 heavy-weight Kieron Pollard for only 5.4 crores. He is one such asset that no T20 team would ever want to let go. At his low price point, it is one of the best bargains struck at the IPL this year.
Krunal Pandya and Pat Cummins are the two other notable purchases for MI this year. Performing well both with the bat and the ball was what made Krunal Pandya such a hot favorite among all teams when the IPL 2018 auctions began. Even at his seemingly high price point of Rs. 8.8 crores, if he clicks with both the ball and the bat, it’ll really be worth it.
Pat Cummins will expand MI’s depths in the bowling department. At 5.4 crores, he was an exquisite deal indeed.
