Biography of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
Siddaramaiah is an Indian politician who is currently serving as a Chief Minister of Karnataka since 2013 – 2017 and is currently a leader of INC (Indian National Congress).

Siddaramaiah born to Siddarama Gowde and Boramma on 12th of August in 1948, hails from a farming family of a remote village named “Siddaramanahundi” in Varuna Hobli near T. Narasipura of Mysore District.
Educational Qualification of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
No formal education was provided to him till the age of 10, but later on, he went on to pursue B.Sc and Bachelor of Law from Mysore University. After completing his graduation, he went on to practice Law at District Courts in Mysore and other cities in South Karnataka.
Political Journey of Siddaramaiah
Having spotted in district courts as a graduate lawyer and asked to contest in the elections of Mysore taluka by Nanjunda Swamy, a lawyer in Mysore, Siddaramaiah was elected and from there on he had a spectacular political start in 1978.
This little success led him to contest on a Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket from the Chamundeshwari constituency and had set his foot in the 7th Karnataka Legislative Assembly, which earned him all the name and fame in the old region of Mysore in 1983.
Siddaramaiah, the First President of the Kannada Kavalu Samiti
He was later engaged in the Janata ruling party and became the first President of the Kannada Surveillance Committee also known as Kannada Kavalu Samiti, who had a motive of supervising the implementation of Kannada as an official language.
Siddaramaiah’s Election Journey
Siddaramaiah was re-elected from the same constituency during the mid-term polls in 1985 for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.
During the rule of Ramakrishna Hedge as a Chief Minister, he supervised many diverse portfolios such as Sericulture, Animal Husbandry and Transport at different points of the Ramakrishna Hedge Government.
Unfortunately, he was defeated by a veteran Congress leader, M.Rajasekara Murthy in 1989 Assembly elections.
But failures never affected him and he continued his journey in politics by heading to the Janata Dal, where he was appointed as Secretary General in 1992 and later in 1994, he was made the Finance Minister of the Janata Dal Government.
After serving as a Finance Minister for two years, he was appointed as a Deputy Chief Minister during the service of J.H Patel as a chief minister in 1996.
Siddaramaiah chose to join the Janata Dal (Secular) faction of Deve Gowda after the split of Janata Dal and became the First President of its State unit.
He was again defeated in 1999 elections and later he was again appointed as a Deputy Chief Minister when a coalition government was formed by Janta Dal (Secular) and INC (Indian National Congress) with Dharam Singh as the Chief Minister.
In 2005, He wanted to form a regional party Akhila Bharata Pragatipara Janata Dal (ABPJD) in the state after quitting the JD(S) because of the differences with Former Prime Minister of India H.D Deve Gowda.
But later he dropped the idea of forming a party because a lot of regional parties previously formed in Karnataka did not survive.
How Siddaramaiah became the Chief Minister of Karnataka
With the subsequent mass support of backward classes, Siddaramaiah joined the Congress Party at a large public meeting, which was held at Bangalore in the presence of the then President of Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi.
He achieved victory in the Chamundeshwari by-polls held in December 2006, despite the tough campaign against him led by Deve Gowda, Chief Minister Kumara Swamy and Deputy Chief Minister Yeddyurappa in the constituency.
During the 2008 Karnataka State Assembly Elections, he contested from a different constituency called Varuna and was re-elected for the fifth time.
Siddaramaiah also won the 2013 election on 8th of May 2013, a day after the next day that is on 10th May 2013, he was elected as the Leader of Congress Legislative Party in the Karnataka Assembly.
After Congress adopted secret balloting to elect the new Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah was the one who led the Indian National Congress to victory by achieving the majority and was elected as the Chief Minister.

Brief sketch of Siddaramaiah’s Personal Life
Siddaramaiah was the second amongst his five siblings and is a leader of Kuruba Gowda Community.
He was married to Parvathi and had two sons, Rakesh and Yathindra. Due to multiple organ failures, his son Rakesh died in July 2016 in Belgium.
Rakesh was an actor and has played a few roles in movies; Yathindra, his younger son is a Doctor.
Siddaramaiah on record stated that he is an atheist but then he recently clarified his public stance on the subject: “A rumor has been spread that I am an atheist, which is incorrect. I am a spiritual person but completely against the superstition, as I view everything from the science point of view”.
“My government will not tolerate anyone who works like a terrorist and creates problems in the society”, said by Siddaramaiah.
