The Maoist this time have apparently thought of something very big.

They are allegedly planning to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the style of a ‘Rajiv Gandhi-type incident’.

The Pune Police has seized an internal communication of the Maoists which has revealed the nefarious-planning by the Maoists.

On Thursday, the Pune Police told the court that a letter had been allegedly found in the house of one of the five persons arrested for “links” with the banned CPI (Maoist).

According to PTI, a day earlier, the police had arrested Dalit activist Sudhir Dhawale, lawyer Surendra Gadling, activists Mahesh Raut and Shoma Sen and Rona Wilson from Mumbai, Nagpur and Delhi individually in connection with ‘Elgar Parishad’ held in Pune in December which had led to the subsequent Bhima-Koregaon violence in the district.

In the sessions court, all five were produced and the court sent them to police custody till June 14. However, the lawyers for the accused have claimed that the documents mentioned by the prosecution were made-up and that the accused had been framed.

The mention of the requirement of an amount of Rs 8 crores for purchasing of M-4 rifles and four lakh rounds of ammunition as well “another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident” was allegedly found in the letter recovered form the home of Rona Wilson in Delhi,

The letter says “We are thinking along the lines of another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident.”

The letter further states: “It sounds suicidal and there is a good chance we might fail but we feel the party must deliberate over our proposal.”

In the letter there was a clear indication about how they should execute their plan. The words “targeting his road shows could be an effective strategy,” as mentioned the letter was the indication.

The letter also mentioned that the “Modi-led Hindu fascist regime is bulldozing its way into the lives of indigenous adivasis.”

The letter further added that BJP governments have been established in over 15 states by Modi despite of the big defeats like Bihar and West Bengal.

After the letter come out in the public domain, many politicians have reacted – albeit in different tones. Some of them questioned the authentication of the letter. For example, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said that the letter was planned by the BJP party. “I am not saying this is completely untrue but It has been PM Modi’s old tactic, since he was PM, whenever his popularity declines, news of an assassination plot it planted” he said.

And then there were others who have refrained from commenting anything on the revelations yet. CPM’s Sitaram Yechury, chose not to make any comments about the ‘truth’ behind the letter.
