In an effort to distance itself from the case, the CBI has been handed over the investigations of the alleged rape of an 18-year old and the death of the father of the alleged rape survivor in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) by the BJP led estate government. There are allegations that the rape was done by U.P. BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
On Thursday evening, Unnao’s Makhi Police Station slapped the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POSCO act against the accused MLA.
It was just hours that the BJP MLA had appeared before the police but did not surrender. that the decision to allow the CBI to investigate the case was taken.
“An FIR be lodged under appropriate sections considering the allegations of rape levied on MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and others and the investigation be handed over to CBI,” the Principal Secretary (Information) of U.P. had said in a statement. “Investigation in to cross cases pertaining to incidents leading to the death of the victim’s father be also handed over to the CBI.”
Earlier a preliminary report was filed to the state government by the Special Investigation Team formed with Additional Director General of Police (Lucknow zone) as the head to investigate the allegations. The decision to handover the case to the CBIO was taken soon after.
It was on Wednesday that the stand of the Yogi Adityanath government on the case was asked to be submitted by the Allahabad High Court.
On the other hand, in a surprising move, the accused MLA suddenly turned up late on Wednesday night at the Lucknow SSP’s residence following expectations that he would surrender. However, he did not.
“I came here to show to the media that I am not absconding, and I am very much in Lucknow. I am here, tell me what to do,” he told reporters.
He said, “I am a disciplined BJP worker. I am innocent. I am being implicated.”

Yesterday, narco tests for both her husband and the alleged rape survivor was demanded by the wife of the accused MLA – Sangeeta Sengar.
The alleged rape victim survivor had also alleged yesterday that she was being virtually kept confined in a hotel room by the district administration. She had attempted to set herself on fire a few days ago in front of the residence of U.P. chief minister’s house. A day after that, her father died.
There was also no shortage of politics over the issue with the opposition slamming the BJP government over the incident. Congress national president Rahul Gandhi said that the incident had “shamed humanity” and wondered whether prime minister Narendra Modi would be observing a fast against the alleged rape and death of the survivor’s father in police custody.
He tweeted: “The barbarism inflicted on a father seeking justice for his daughter in Uttar Pradesh has shamed humanity. Hope the prime minister will soon observe a fast over atrocities against women, failed law and order and increasing anarchy under the BJP’s watch.”
The opposition has also demanded the resignation of the U.P. chief minister over the issue and alleged that the Yogi Adityanath government was a “Ravan” regime that has been unable to ensure women protection.
